Targeting the consumer market is a key part of our strategy to capture the rapid increase in discretionary consumer spending in the country. According to a forecast by McKinsey, the number of consumers with income for discretionary spending will potentially increase from 2.5 million today to 19 million in 2030, with consumer spending tripping to US$100 billion.

We are establishing a food and beverage platform that includes restaurant outlets, manufacturing and distribution of food and beverage, and cold chain logistic services. We believe that our consumer platform building around our KFC and Food & Distribution businesses will ensure that we are well placed to tap into this growing market segment in the coming years.

KFC is the first global quick service restaurant (“QSR”) brand in Myanmar. We opened our first KFC store in June 2015 and has been expanding quickly. We target to have 22 stores nationwide by 31 March 2018. KFC Myanmar is now one of the leading consumer brands in the country and has been one of the best performing KFC markets within Asia, winning several awards including Yum! Brands’ “Rookie of the Year” franchisee award in 2016.

Our KFC team continues to drive its consumer engagement and strengthen its brand reputation through excellent customer service, new product innovations, attractive value offers and an emerging digital presence. With the rapid expansion of the KFC Myanmar business, we are focused on investing in people through training and development programs, as well as improving the operational efficiency of each store based on defined performance targets

With more exciting plans in the pipeline and a capable team, KFC Myanmar is in a strong position to capture the opportunities of the growing Myanmar consumer class.

Partnership with METRO Group

In February 2017, we strengthened our food and beverage distribution business by forming a partnership with the Metro Group, an internationally leading specialist in wholesale and food retail, to establish a one-stop food distribution platform in Myanmar. A depot for wholesale distribution located in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone is currently being built and is expected to commence operations in early 2018. We will hold a 15% stake in the investment.
